Local Area

Port Macquarie is located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, just a 4 hour drive from Sydney. Glorious, white sand beaches, punctuated by rocky headlands, intricate inland waterways, rainforests, State forests and nature reserves are yours to explore when you visit Port Macquarie.

Explore any of the 20 National Parks and Reserves, relax by the beach, take an early morning stroll along a waterfront pathway or a boardwalk under the canopy of a subtropical rainforest. The choices are endless.

Within the region, you can discover Camden Haven an area around the Camden Haven River.  At the mouth of it lie the holiday towns of Laurieton, Dunbogan and North Haven. North Brother Mountain has magnificent views of the area’s waterways. Tour the Hinterland home to spectacular, natural wonders. Starting with the western side of Camden Haven you will find Kendal, the heart of crafts. As you enter the lush pastures and rolling hills you’ll discover nature’s treasures and hideaways which will delight you.

The township of Wauchope is only minutes from Port Macquarie and is the centre of the local dairy and cattle industries and the gateway to National Parks and State Forests.  Visit the Historic Village ‘TimberTown’ which is set amongst 87 acres of natural forest.  Timbertown is an authentic heritage township, with a horse and carriage, a team of bullocks pulling a heavy load, and ride on the working steam train.
